Acupuncture Landscape finished! July 15, 2009

Acupuncture Landscape, Mixed Media Pastel, Gouache, Graphite, & Colored Pencil.
This image came about as I experienced healing through acupuncture for my ulnar/carpal tunnel symptoms, through a very brilliant Doctor, Dr. Ted Priebe. Thank you for helping me heal!
Check out his website for more info on acupuncture treatment: http://www.tedpriebe.com/
In terms of mediums and style, this is definitely what I would consider another “break-through” Piece- Its by far the most abstract version of a medical themed piece so far. I had started it after a long time away from pastel and found myself open to trying more layering, spray fixing and lose work than ever before!
With this one, I started to get technical on the elements but stopped- instead I focused on the emotion and energy behind each acupuncture session, instead of the bio-mechanics behind it. Towards the end of this piece, I became more bold and added paint, colored pencil and graphite, working in layers to create the effects I needed.
I hope to continue this way of working as it adds a fresh and powerful element to the work. What do you think? Have you tried mixed media? It is really a great experience!
Collaboration Works July 13, 2009

Wow, I was always a fan of Collaboration Art. Now Im a bigger fan, and am excited to share new collaboration art I am a part of is up in a show! Working with fellow artists John Hicks and Mike Pena was a blast. Below are pics from the Nova Show in San Pedro. Great turn out, fun event! I had some of my own art work up as well as the collaborations, it was exciting to see the new art up!
It is just amazing what can be accomplished and what kinds of worlds can be created in the meeting of two or more artists minds. Time to unlock hidden doors. I feel open to explore, and thus these new pieces show a new kind of energy- These have multiple layers and a mixing of mediums I hadn’t really tried before.
Acrylics, Paint Markers, Oil, Graphite…
More pieces are in the works! Next series we are experiementing on wood!

DNA and Deep Sea… June 10, 2009

untitled, 10×20, Acrylic (in progress)
Started a new collaboration piece. I have been wanting to do a piece on the structure of DNA for some time now. Will be developing it further. This one has an interesting blend of all I have been sketching and studying lately mixed with my natural tendency to explore anatomical themes… Can’t wait to keep working on it, and see where it goes. Thank you Aahd Art, for collaboration on the background, gave me a great start on this piece!
The Trees June 2, 2009

I recently got back to ink sketching on a road trip. When you take away color, you can explore line shape and form. In exploring the patterns of the world, I am finding appreciation and freedom to explore much more. With this series, I explored in ink the patterns of the trees, scanned them in and used limited color in the computer. I am continuing to explore this technique, enjoying the meditative quality of exploring natures patterns.
Painting on Walls April 10, 2009

I had to privellege to be asked to do a painting on the wall of Gallery X on 3rd Street, in downtown LA, for the “Strength In Numbers” Show tonight! Above is a sneak peek at it! Come out to the show to see it in full and experience it in person!
There is a lot more to see….
For details on the show, see http://www.artslant.com/la/events/show/44941-strength-in-numbers
I have been happily working away at it! It is so much fun! It was spontanous and changed, large format and a new texture opened up all sorts of possibilities. This was such a great breakthrough for me and I cant wait to do more murals in the future! I am sure some of the excitement was due to me doing something we are told we aren’t supposed to do…!! I say Do it! Try it!
Have fun!

Hi Everyone!
Strength in Numbers April 1, 2009

New work, new show!! I am excited to participate in a group show in Downtown LA next week- the show is at Gallery on 3rd street. I will post up all the info soon.
Artists were given the theme “Strength in Numbers” and heres what I am submitting.
What I took from the theme was repetition, and since I’ve been experimenting with more abstract form, I decided to play with one general form and repeat it…
Each painting provoks a different atmosphere while using the same concept of repitition of form. Its interesting how the color and form effect the painting - one can feel tightness, and lack of space with the use of repitition, but then again, repitition can create great feeling of space…
Which do you like, what do they make you feel?
Journaling Class ! April 1, 2009

Check out what I made in the Art Journaling Class- It was a morning of fun-
well the cover is Orlys card!! I cant take credit for all that beautiful text- but the rest is mine!
I couldnt stop scribbling, cutting, glueing and coloring. It was like I was back in art class in 5th grade, it was so much fun. This class inspires me to remember what it was like to MAKE, to CREATE… without intention without such a concern on the outcome as we artists are sometimes consumed with…
Orly, thank you! What a wonderful instructor too!!!
Looking forward to this Saturday!
